LacTEST®, a new diagnostic drug for the diagnosis of lactose intolerance based in a new molecule: gaxilose

Urine evaluation of hypolactasia

The development of this new molecule started in 1989 in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) giving rise to some patents which rights belong to Venter Pharma S.L. During the past eight years the Company has completed the chemical and clinical development of the product. The European authorization process was completed in November 2011, and the National registration process is now in progress in Spain and Germany.

Chart

The product is a modified sugar, analogue of lactose, that is hydrolyzed by intestinal lactase breaking it into galactose and xylose, which enter the bloodstream by passive absorption, subsequently appearing in urine. Xylose can be measured easily both in blood and urine, following a specifically validated method for this type of analysis.

The quantity of Xylose in urine is proportional to the activity level of intestinal lactase, so it represents a direct measure of the level of hypolactasia.

Blood evaluation of hypolactasia

The company will apply to register of the blood test because it can be a useful alternative for the diagnostic of some patients.
